Christmas in Kansas 2012

Our annual trip to Kansas for deer season and Christmas last year was so much fun!  Of course Kansas is one of Landon's favorite places to visit - this was Maddie Kate's third visit and she warmed right up and starting putting on shows in no time!  I feel certain Kansas will be one of her favorite places to visit too!  Daddy got 3 deer right away - this was good for a couple reasons.  1.  We have lots of deer meat to eat this year...and 2.  He let me sleep in since he didn't have to be up early to hunt!  Win-Win, I'd say!  Kansas truly is one of our most favorite places to visit and I'm so, so thankful that we get to see Mama and Papa and Aunt Lindy and Uncle Carl a couple times a year.  We always have such a good time and I absolutely love, love, love watching my kiddos have fun with their great-grandparents.  We can't wait to go back in May!

Bath time!

Sweet, sweaty grin!

Big deer!

Pretty Christmas Tree!

 Maddie helped pass out presents!

Uncle Chris is the coolest!

Maddie Kate got lots of fun presents...but really just wanted all the candy!

Landon got lots of fun presents too

We got a great picture of Mama and Papa with the kiddos!
4 of my most favorite people in the whole world!

Yep, he stuck his finger right up his nose on purpose.  We all know he's ornery.

Sweet girl!

This year's family picture - Ornery runs in the family!  Ha!

Ripping Books and Sweet Apologies

Yesterday I got a facebook message from one of Landon's teachers, Ms Amy, saying that Landon, along with some other boys in his class, had ripped up some books during naptime at school. The consequence was that he wouldn't be able to look at books during naptime anymore. Jim and I talked about the best way to handle this situation and decided that we would talk to him and make sure he understood that what he did was wrong and that he needed to apologize to his teachers. We also decided that he would need to choose a few of his own books to take to school to replace the ones he tore up. So, this morning I had a talk with him and asked him to apologize to his teachers. We didn't make a huge deal out of it but made sure that he understood that ripping books is not ok and that just because other kids were doing it that he didn't have to. When I talked to him he immediately said he was sorry to me and that he knew it was wrong. Today I got another message letting me know that Landon had apologized and that his teacher was very touched by his sweet and sincere apology. I'm so happy that our sweet boy felt remorse and did the right thing after we only asked him to once. I hope this is a good indication that our guy truly understands the difference between right and wrong and that he's learned a good lesson that will stick with him. Here are pictures of the messages I received.

MK's First Haircut!

Yesterday I took Landon to get his hair cut. It was super long and way overdue! MK came along and while we were there the girl cutting Landon's hair talked me into "shaping up" MK's hair...and by "shaping up" she meant get rid of the mullet! Her hair was growing long in the back and on the sides but not on top. I have been secretly holding out for curls but I was assured that our girl has straight hair. We celebrated by going to the Toggery afterward for a few new bows since she has enough hair on top for the small ones!! Landon got a treat too! Ninja Turtle bubbles!!!

Before...

During...notice the sucker. She had a death grip on that thing til only soggy paper remained! She's loves sugar. A lot!

After! I couldn't get a good after picture at Pigtails and Crewcuts. When it was over she was done!!! And she's too busy to sit still for pictures these days!

No more bottles - cold turkey!

Last weekend we decided that it was time for MK to be done with bottles. She was still getting 4 bottles of milk a day. One in the morning, one each at nap times and one before bed. I've not been super eager to take them away since she already doesn't sleep well but she started asking for "ba's" and I thought maybe it would be harder if we waited much much longer. So far she's doing well! Naps aren't as easy but morning and night are ok. Most kids in her class at school still take a bottle and her teachers said they had a rough day this week because she wanted one but we will push through and I think she will continue to do ok. And we've regained this space on our counter! The bottle drying rack is packed away too!

I was the tiniest bit sad as I packed away the bottles. Our baby is growing up so fast!! When I packed them away with Landon I hoped we'd need them again someday. This time we don't have the same hopes...its just so hard to believe that the baby phase is ending so quickly!

Here's our big girl enjoying a family favorite. Chicken and noodles with veggies! The sippy cup surely belongs on the plate!

S'mores!

Tonight we made s'mores with the kiddos!!! It was all Daddy's idea and was so much fun after a very long work week! Landon had the best time and got so excited. We just love doing new things with he and his baby sister! MK was a huge fan. She started eating the graham crackers before we even got outside and loved the marshmallow and chocolate too!! We are looking forward to a lazy weekend at home with our sweet, ornery kiddos!!
