Landon's First Trip to the Movies!

Saturday we took Landon to the movies for the first time. We went to see the new Ice Age movie and it was so much fun! He sat still and paid attention the entire time and looked like such a big boy with his popcorn and coke! It was a cute movie too! I can't wait til MK is big enough so we can all go to the movies together!

Daddy and Landon with silly squinty "mom do we have to take a picture?" grins.

First Day of School!

Today was Landon and Maddie's first day back at school!  Landon moved up to the 3 year old class and MK stayed in the infant room.  We went to open house last Friday to meet Landon's teachers and to see his classroom - we also popped in to see MK's teachers and check out the crib with her name on it!  Landon was kinda shy at first at open house but on the way out he did his best ninja moves and impressed his teachers from the start!  Ha!  Landon and Luke are in the same class again this year and we're so excited!  Murphy is in a different class but they'll get to play together on the playground.  They will do Spanish and music class and they'll also go to chapel.  This is Landon's last year at Second Presbyterian before going to Pre-K at Christ the King!  He's growing up!

Both kids had a great first day!  Nana said that Landon went in - and only after a brief moment where he couldn't find Luke he did great!  Miss Maddie Kate loves school and when Nana walked by to check on her after she'd dropped her off she said MK was playing on the floor right in the middle of it all.  That's my social girl!

When Nana picked them up after school Landon said he loved it and asked if he could stay!  I went shopping at lunch and got Landon a "post first day" present because he reminded me this morning that he really wanted a Spiderman backpack!  I kinda thought he might have forgotten...nope!  Ha!  So, he got a Spiderman backpack, lunch box, binder for his art and even new Spiderman undies!  He'll have us in his "piderwebs" all year!

This morning we had a first day of school photo shoot!  I LOVE these pictures so much I couldn't just pick a few!

Reading with Daddy

Daddy reads a book or 5 to Landon every night while I put MK to bed. It's so sweet and I know they both enjoy their time together. This week MK got in on the action and read the Razorback ticket book with Daddy!

Maddie Kate is 9 Months Old!

Maddie Kate, you are 9 months old and you're so much fun!  You're doing so many new, fun things and you are really starting to show us your personality more everyday.  You are a persistent little girl!  You learn so fast and you rarely give up.  If you want to do something you keep trying until you figure it out.  You have the sweetest smile and the prettiest blue eyes!  You're starting to babble more and more and just like your brother, you love to talk!  This morning you wanted to chat around 2am.  While it's cute, your timing could use improvement.  Sleep is still a lost art form for you.  We have had to resort to letting you "cry it out" and the first night, several weeks ago, you cried and jumped up and down in your crib for oh, about an hour.  It was dreadful for all involved but you finally gave in and slept all night.  You got progressively better the first week but you still don't sleep all night on a consistent basis.  We know you will eventually.  In fact, right now, for the first time in days you're in your bed fast asleep and you haven't fussed much at all.  Yay for progress!  Keep it up girlfriend!

You continue to blow past all the milestones for your age and I'm actually surprised you're not walking yet.  You cruise around furniture and can get where you want to go quickly...you're especially quick after we've told you no when you're heading in a direction we don't want you to go...mainly the bathroom.  You look back and laugh at us when we tell you no and then crawl head down as fast as you can!  Again with the persistence!

You have 8 teeth and you're a great eater!  You have the pincer grasp down and can pick up your food very well.  You've just in the last couple of weeks tried turkey, ham, chicken, cooked carrots, peas, banana, toast, cereal bars, arrowroot cookies, yogurt melts and a few other things.  You still like puffs and mum mums.  You enjoy feeding yourself and I have a feeling the baby food I recently stocked up on will be going to the shelter to share with the babies there.  I hope you keep up the good work with your eating habits!  You're shaping up to be as good an eater as your brother and we are thankful for that.  We definitely want healthy kiddos!  You already enjoy drinking from a sippy cup and we have to keep your brother's out of reach because you're quick to grab his!  This week we've started the transition to a new formula. I hope you tolerate it well!  It will save mommy and daddy some cashola and we want your little belly to be ok with milk when it's time for that.

You had your 9 month checkup last week and here are your stats:

You weigh 18 pounds 7 ounces (40%)
You are 28 inches long (62%)
Your head circumference is 17 1/4 cm  (42%)

You wear a size 3 diaper, 6-12 and 9 month clothes and you don't wear shoes yet so I don't know your shoe size.  You love shoes - you especially love to chew on them.  Soon, we'll get you a couple pairs to wear and teach you that they aren't for chewing.

You love bath time, you play pretty well by yourself and you still aren't afraid to tell your brother when you're angry with him for taking toys away!  You love to play peek-a-boo and you've been clapping your hands for weeks now!  You clap in response to us asking you to play pat-a-cake and just like the video in my last post shows, you love for me to sing "If You're Happy and You Know It".

You wave hi and goodbye and you say hi and bye bye too!  You love to play with your toy phone!  You hold it up to your ear and say hi!

MK, you are such a joy.  We love you so much and have enjoyed watching you grow and change.

If you're happy and you know it!

MK is such a cute little smartypants! Her 9 month post is coming soon but I have to share this fun video first!

And yes, that toy she's playing with is a fishing pole. It's one of her favorites. She also plays with cars. I thought she might like a girly toy or two to play with so I bought her a cute pink picnic basket...and she couldn't care less about it. Fishing poles and cars are clearly more fun!

Tonsil recovery is no fun!

Actually, it's not all bad as long as the iPad and mommy's iPhone are both charged. Landon's throat might be a smidgen better and hopefully his brain isn't too fried after hours and hours of iPad and iPhone play time! Another not so bad part of tonsil surgery is fun presents from friends and family! Luke and Ella made Landon the sweetest card and also sent fun goodies! He got fun stuff from Nana and Papa and Mimi and Papa and Kylie brought Landon a DVD with 3 movies on it! I had to go back to work today and although it was hard to go back it wasn't the worst day ever and I think a change of scenery and some Nana time did good things for our tonsilless guy! Hopefully he will be completely back to his fun, ornery self soon!

Cupcakes with Landon!

Landon is feeling a little better so today we decided to celebrate by making cupcakes! We had fun baking together and he loved helping. He especially loved watching them bake in the oven! I've enjoyed being home this week and it's going to be hard to go back to work Monday! Our little guy is such a trooper and even though he has felt pretty crummy we have enjoyed hanging out together.

He put the cupcake papers in the pan!

And put the mix in the bowl.

He poured in the water and oil (but left the egg cracking up to me).

He helped mix using his Great Nanny's mixer.

And watched them bake!

He had to do a taste test before we frosted them!

And he helped with the sprinkles too!

After we finished, we decided that a walk would be nice so we walked down to our neighbors house to share our cupcakes!

Landon got his tonsils out!

On Monday we took Landon to get his tonsils out. They were huge even when he was well and were ginormous when he was sick. He had a weeks long bout with strep throat that ended with a nasty allergic reaction to the strongest antibiotic they gave him this past winter. After the ENT doctor told us he would be a good candidate for the surgery we decided we should do it during preschool break. We started talking to him about it a few days before and told him that he would have a sore throat for a while and that he would get to eat lots of cold stuff like ice cream and popsicles after! None of us were really ready but we were prepared.

On the way I got this cute video of our big boy.

YouTube Video

They took out his tonsils, adenoids and the tubes that were just hanging out in his ear canal. The whole thing took 28 minutes! We went back as he was waking up and holding him while he came to was not super fun. He was rowdy and kicked a lot. Poor guy. We finally got him home and spent the afternoon resting. By that evening he felt ok enough to eat a little...I'm sure the pain medicine helped. How could it not! They gave him some strong stuff! Day 2 wasn't great and the beginning of day 3 was worse. Our poor guy woke up and asked us when we could put his tonsils back in. It's taken quite a bit of bribing and several new iPad games to get him to drink much and his daddy is much better at getting him to drink than I am! I'm not sure what we expected but I will say that this recovery hasn't been super fun and I'm thankful I took the week off work to be with him. He is definitely getting better though and is best in the early afternoon and evenings. I'm sure he will be back to his ornery self soon and even though he doesn't feel well we have enjoyed the extra snuggle time with our favorite little dude.
